DAVAO CITY -- Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is wishing that religion, color, and race should not break unity as she joins Muslims in celebrating Eid’l Adha Friday.

“Let us also not allow hate, discrimination, or conflict to come between us and break our unity, “ the city mayor said in a statement released to the media.

Duterte-Carpio has expressed her warm wishes and sincere hope that the feast of sacrifice becomes an opportunity for the people to show love, compassion, kindness to everyone, especially the needy, the sick and the children.

She also wished that everyone will work for lasting peace.

“Let us be reminded that no religion, color, or race should shatter our community and our shared values and aspirations to live peacefully,” she said.

On Friday morning, hundreds of Davao Muslims went to their Mosques for the Eid prayer. Eid'l Adha is one of Islam's two major feasts that is celebrated worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, as an act of obedience to God's command.

Davao City is home to different Muslim tribes - the Maguindanaons, Maranaos, Iranuns. Each is represented by a deputy mayor designated by the mayor to serve as link to the community. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
