DAVAO CITY – The Police Regional Office (PRO) will embark on an all-new and life-changing program known by its acronym DDS.
It’s not the infamous Davao Death Squad but it’s a green or food revolution campaign wherein police officers become dirt little diggers at Camp Quintin Merecido in Panacan, Davao City.
Dubbed Davao Dirt Squad (DDS), Police Regional Office (PRO) XI spokesperson Chief Inspector Andrea dela Cerna said the campaign would aid police accomplished their Mission: Slim Possible, a weight loss program for the police in Davao Region.
“It’s Dirt to represent earth,” Dela Cerna said.
She said the campaign is also about life because they would grow plants and most of all it should also correct the impression that the police kill people.
Dela Cerna said the campaign would be officially launched next week after the police undergo a two-hour urban container gardening training which starts Thursday.
This is in partnership with the Rotary Club of Downtown Davao.
Dela Cerna said PRO XI is also seeking support from the Department of Agriculture (DA) XI for the provision of vegetable seedlings.
The objective of the campaign is to practice healthy lifestyle and loose extra pounds with a combination of 20 percent exercise and 80 percent food and proper nutrition.
Urban gardening is also being promoted by the city government as a scheme to guarantee food and environmental safety as well as reduce expenses through application of organic fertilizers.
The city government wanted to teach people to plant even without backyards so that there is food on hand which would mean savings to grocery budget.
Dela Cerna said proper diet and nutrition would help the police personnel lose weight but maintaining good health not only through exercise.
“We plan to cascade this project to our families…to the city, provincial level,” she said. This will also be offered to the drug reformists.
Mission: Slim Possible is also in line with the “FitFil 1 Million Lbs National Weight Loss Challenge”.
The PNP with its 170,000 personnel is committed to lose 500,000 pounds collectively for six months.
PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa earlier said the change of lifestyle towards better physical and mental health not only at how the police work and accomplish goals.
