DAVAO CITY -- Some 3,000 members of the Phiippine Councilors League (PCL) will convene next week for three days of learning sessions aimed at upgrading practices on several compelling issues.
The PCL's 2nd Series of the Continuing Local Legislative Education Program (CLLEP) will also be held simultaneously with the 3rd quarterly meeting of the National Executive Officers-National Board (NEO-NB) led by Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang as national chair and Chavit Singson of Ilocos Sur as national president.
Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, chair of the City Council's Committee on Tourism and International Relations and PCL Davao City Chapter vice president, said the agenda at the PCL convention will be aligned with the campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte against illegal drugs and corruption.
Alejandre said more participants are expected this year because of the increase in direct flight connections to Davao. In 2015, the PCL convention here in Davao registered about 2,600 councilors.
He said the continuing education of the league’s members is provided in the PCL’s Constitution and By-Laws. This year’s theme is "Philippine Councilors League: Christian-Muslim Councilors are one for Peace and Development."
Among the speakers, lawyer Jose Lorena will talk on the "Role of Legislators in Peace and Development" while lawyer Jesus Villardo will tackle the "Role of Legislators in Conflict Sensitivity and Peace and Development."
PCL has also invited Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar; officials from the National Economic and Development Authority and Department of Agriculture; Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales; Senator Manny Pacquiao; Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald Dela Rosa; and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
