Council approves resolution seeking budget allocation for BADAC
BAGUIO CITY, Aug. 5 (PNA) –- The Baguio City Council approved Resolution numbered 142-2016 filed by Councilor and Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) representative Michael Lawana requesting for assistance for and in behalf of all the 128 barangays in the city.

The resolution re-echoes President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to fight illegal drugs sale and use nationwide.

Lawana, on Friday, August 5 said the resolution seeks the assistance of the executive branch of the city government to strengthen the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) by way of budgetary allocations.

On July 11, the Department of Interiors and Local Government – Baguio City Field Office (DILGBC) issued a memorandum enjoining barangay officials to spearhead the fight against illegal drugs by activating the BADACs.

Records show that there were 686 individuals who voluntarily presented themselves to the authorities and signed their pledges of commitment to stop their drug dependency and trade.

Lawana said the BADAC played a big role in eradicating drugs in the community as well as in monitoring the trade of illegal drugs that are being operated in the barangay sector.

Lawana observed that the BADACs need support in order to sustain the on-going war against drugs.

The resolution, Lawana said, will formalize the needed support from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and concerned agencies to assist the barangay officials in dealing with the issues and concerns regarding the unprecedented surge and instantaneous voluntary submission of persons-of-interest in connection with the use and sale of illegal drugs.

“It is necessary that mandatory appropriations for BADAC must be made and incorporated in the annual budgets of the barangays and the menu for activities and projects for the BADAC are not limited to campaigns for illegal drug use but also activities such as seminars and the like,” stressed Lawana.
