LAOAG CITY -- Classes in public and private schools, both in pre-school and elementary levels, in Ilocos Norte are suspended due to inclement weather brought about by tropical storm “Isang” (Hato).
As of Tuesday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said "Isang" was spotted at the vicinity of Batanes with a maximum sustained winds of 80-kilometer per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 97 kilometer per hour.
Rains with gusty winds prevailed in Ilocos Norte since Monday (August 21), prompting residents to take precautionary measures as the province is now under typhoon signal 1.
In Laoag City, mayor Chevylle Fariñas is among the first to announce classes suspension followed by other local government units and private schools here.
Classes in affected areas are automatically suspended based on the PAGASA-declared storm signals, while local government units (LGUs) decide on and announce class suspensions during calamities.
Students in high school and college, however, have not cancelled so far.(PNA)
