Agusan Norte crime rate continues to drop
« on: May 09, 2020, 03:07:45 PM »
BUTUAN CITY—Agusan del Norte's crime rate has continued its downtrend into the third quarter of the year, records from the Police Regional Office-13 (PRO-13) showed.

The province posted a total record of 407 crime incidents from January to August this year, consisting of 122 index and 285 non-index crimes. This is 64 cases fewer compared to the same period last year, said Chief Inspector Danilo B. Palen, the province's deputy chief for operations.

Index crimes, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP), are crimes against persons such as murder, homicide, physical injury and rape, and crimes against property such as robbery, theft and carnapping. Non-index crimes, meanwhile, are violations of special laws such as illegal logging or local ordinances.

Among local government units, at least four municipalities and a city showed a decrease in crime incidents, while a slight increase was noted in other six municipalities.

In the municipality of Buenavista, only 95 were recorded during the second quarter as compared to 139 of the same period in 2016. In Cabadbaran City, recorded only 75 in 2017 (compared to 101 in 2016); Nasipit (32 in 2017; 39 in 2016); Kitcharao (26 in 2017; 38 in 2016); and Santiago (22 in 2017;38 in 2016).

Slight increase was noted in Las Nieves (28 in 2017; only 26 in 2016); Tubay (29 in 2017 with only 22 in 2016); RTR (2017 in 2017; 21 in 2016); Carmen (25 in 2017; 19 in 2016); Jabonga (28 in 2017; 19 in 2016) and Magallanes (16 in 2017; 15 in 2016).

Palen said the chiefs of police in these municipalities have been instructed by Agusan del Norte Police Director Ernesto V. Tendero, Jr. to intensify anti-criminality efforts to lower the their respective crime rates.

Still, the province's Crime Clearance Efficiency (CSE), in which crime suspects were identified and cases were filed in courts, has increased by 61.42% this year compared to 50.95 in 2016.

Its Crime Solution Efficiency, in which suspects were identified, arrested and cases were filed in court, has also increased by 54.79 this year, compared to 45.43 % in 2016.

Agusan del Norte's Average Monthly Crime Rate (AMCR) had also gone down to 14.55 %, compared to 16.84 % last year.

Palen attributed these achievements to intensified police operations, beat patrols and checkpoints, the implementation of curfew hour in the province, the martial law atmosphere and local government and community's cooperation. (PNA/Noel B. Najarro)
