Cop chief believes Cayamora held vital info
« on: May 03, 2020, 12:12:10 PM »
DAVAO CITY -- The chief of police in Davao City regrets the death of the patriarch of the Mautes as he could have the vital information on the Marawi siege launched in May.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director, Sr. Supt. Alexander Tagum said it was unfortunate Cayamora Maute, the father of brothers Abdullah and Omar who led the attack on Marawi City in May, died.

Tagum said in two days that Cayamora was held in Davao City before his immediate transfer to Manila, he was not cooperative with the police authorities during the investigation.

“He was not cooperative. There was no voluntary information,” Tagum said in an interview Monday.

But Tagum still believes the Maute patriarch was obviously the main solicitor for support to the ISIS. He said Cayamora even sent his children for foreign training. Cayamora had previous affiliations with Islamic groups.

He reportedly led the Maute group during his younger days. It may be recalled that Cayamora together with three family members were arrested by Task Force Davao after they were intercepted at the Sirawan checkpoint in Davao City on June 6.

Cayamora was nabbed along with his second wife Kongan Alfonso-Maute, daughter Norjanna Balawag-Maute, son-in-law Bensarali Tingao, and the van driver Aljon Salazar Esmael.

During his arrest, Cayamora concealed his identity by sporting a clean cut image (no more beard), and body and face covered with malong, prompting them to hold the family for further verification.

When Cayamora was asked to remove the cover of his face, the soldier suspected him to be one of the persons in the gallery of the Maute terrorists.

Posters of the Maute terrorists are posted in all checkpoints, police and army vehicles since the declaration of Martial Law.

According to reports, Cayamora was rushed to the hospital after complaining of weakness and difficulty in breathing on Sunday dawn. He was reportedly given antibiotics and constantly monitored, he added.

Cayamora again complained prompting jail nurse to conduct nebulization and put oxygen support. Cayamora was diagnosed to be suffering from hypertension, diabetes, pneumonia and viral hepatitis when he was committed to the Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
