Leyte solon celebrates natal day with day care children and persons with special needs
Maasin City (31 August) -- To celebrate his 54th natal day meaningfully, Cong. Roger Mercado of the lone district of Southern Leyte, shared a meal with some 100 indigent day care children and 50 persons with special needs after planting 4,000 trees in Brgy. Bogo in the city of Maasin earlier that day.
The indigent children coming from ten depressed barangays in the city were served with the famous Jollibee chicken with rice as they were also entertained with the presence of Jollibee mascot who huddled with them. They all received school supplies like new set of bags, among others.
The birthday celebrant also shared a meal with the 50 persons with special needs. The deaf and mute group brought delight to the audience where they presented a dance number while the blind people gave their best to a singing competition during the birthday party.
The participants to the singing contest all received cash prize from Cong. Mercado himself.
Touched with the talents showcased by the blind, deaf, and mute persons, Cong. Mercado promised to appropriate funds to these sectors from his congressional funds to help them lighten up with their living conditions.
Before the birthday party ends, each of fifty families brought home bundles of groceries and rice prepared by a non-government organization, Limasawa Development and Economic Foundation (LIDEF).
The persons with special needs were assisted by the Department of Education staff while the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) identified the fifty indigent families. (PIA- Southern Leyte)
