GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- Police operatives arrested a college dropout-turned-drug pusher in a buy-bust operation in a housing village in nearby Koronadal City on Tuesday night.
Chief Insp. Jomero Sentinta, deputy chief of the Koronadal City police station, identified the suspect as John Charles Dondiego Nambong, 22, a resident of Villa Agreda Subdivision Phase 1 in Barangay Sto.Niño.
He said the suspect was arrested at around 11:45 p.m. by elements from the Koronadal City police’s drug enforcement unit at a portion of Sueno Village in Barangay Morales.
Nambong was caught in the act of selling a sachet of suspected metamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu worth P500 to a police officer who posed as a buyer, he said.
In a subsequent search, Sentinta said they recovered a medium pack and large packs of suspected shabu worth P118, 000 and various drug paraphernalia.
The police official said Nambong is a former information technology student of a private college in Koronadal City but dropped out and turned to the illegal drug trade.
“He is considered a high value target and reportedly linked to a local drug group,” Sentinta said.
He said they have long been monitoring the movements of the suspected, who is included in the city’s drug watch list.
Sentina said they properly validated the suspect’s illegal activities and launched several test buys prior to the operation.
The evidence seized from Nambong was sent by the Koranadal City police station to the South Cotabato Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) crime laboratory in Koronadal City for proper examination.
The suspect, who is currently detained at the police station’s lock up cell, would be charged for violation of sections 5 and 11or selling and possession of dangerous drugs, under Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002. (PNA)
