Philippines' Galunggong Now an Imported Philippine Product
« on: February 03, 2012, 04:20:32 PM »
“Galunggong,” or round scad, once considered the poor man’s fish, is now among the marine products the Philippines is importing.

Part of the country’s galunggong supply now comes from either China or Taiwan, according to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
Fish accounts for 80 percent of the animal protein intake of Filipinos, who each eat 28 kilos of fish annually.

BFAR Director Asis Perez said the agency and the Department of Agriculture were compelled to open the domestic market to imported fish because of the declining fish catch.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

During my 1st year of medical school, my friend Job and I would go to the local asian super market and buy gulonggong and pinirito it. It was our favorite food for the weekend kai barato and lami ang taste. Job, who is from Lucena, Luzon, would always say, "Sarap na Sarap yan, pareng Lorenz!"

Ah, it was our source of sustenance for many weekends. We would eat gulonggong with rice and have a bowl of soy sauce and lemon juice. Luoy pod intawn.

It wasn't "Poor man's fish" we both called it "Poor medical student's food" lol!
