Coal-Fired Power Plant in Cebu
« on: February 01, 2011, 07:08:27 AM »
Rep. Benhur Salimbangon (Cebu, 4th district) said he offered his district as a site for a coal-fired power plant a Korean company plans to build in Cebu.

He said Daanbantayan is a strategic location for the proposed power plant, which has capacity of 500 to 1,000 megawatts.

Officials of the Korea Southern Power Corp., (Kospo), a sister company of Korea Electric Power Corp. (Kepco), met with Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia last January 24 to discuss its plan to put up a power plant in the province.

”I suggested that they (Kospo officials) go to the district because in the northern part, we have the submarine cable going to Leyte (which is connected) to Luzon. We also have the submarine cable in the south that connects to Negros and Panay,” he said.

He said Bantayan or Daanbantayan can provide the 100 hectares that Kospo needs for the plant.

He said Kospo officials went to Daanbantayan last week and appeared to like what they saw. He added that Kospo will bring experts to study the area.

Salimbangon said the project will bring employment and economic development in his district. It will also spur support services that will help the district’s economy, he added.

Yar-Sup Sim, vice president of Kospo’s construction department, said the company also intends to bring technology for renewable energy, such as wind farms and solar plants, to Cebu.

Salimbangon said the power company is also considering Naga and Carmen as the possible site for the power plant. But both have smaller areas compared with Daanbantayan, he added.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
