SARIAYA, Quezon -- The national government has earmarked more than Php 2 billion to fund various development projects in the second district of Quezon province next year.
2nd District Congressman Vicente Alcala confirmed on Monday that their current Php 1.4 billion 2017 budget has been hiked to more than Php 2 billion for next year.
Alcala thanked President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for the increased budget for the 2nd District next year which, he said, demonstrates the Chief Executive’s priority thrust on education and inclusive growth and services above political affiliations.
Alacala made the disclosure during the inauguration last week of the Barangay Talaan Pantoc farm to market road in Sariaya, Quezon.
He said the fund is intended for infrastructure projects, farm-to-market roads, road widening and bridges including constructions of overpass and underpass in Barangay Gulang-Gulang in Lucena City.
The Quezon 2nd district representative also disclosed that part of the fund is allocated for medical assistance and scholarship program.
He also proposed the expanded scholarship program to cover huge number of students especially among the indigents who could not meet the current average grade requirements of 85% under the scholarship availment.
Alacala has mulled to lower the passing grade requirement for the scholarship program to 75% to provide more financially-strapped students access to tertiary and collegiate education. (PNA)
