CEBU CITY -- The Cebu Provincial Agriculture Office has submitted a budget proposal of PHP430 million for its operations next year.
This was disclosed by Provincial Agriculture Office chief Roldan Saragena on Friday during the “Kapistorya” forum at the Cebu Provincial Information Office here.
Of the PHP430 million, Saragena said only PHP180 million would be set aside for the regular projects and the remaining PHP250 million for the Farmer Scientist Training Program (FSTP).
The 2018 budget requested by the Provincial Agriculture Office is almost four times bigger than this year’s PHP109 million.
Saragena said the budget does not include the PHP31 million funding requested for the Agri-Fishery Insurance Program which would be sourced from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office’s (PDRRMO) funds.
Part of the PHP250-million allocation for the FSTP will go to the Fisherman Scientist Training Program, which will be the focus in 2018 after years of giving priority to farmers.
The Provincial Agriculture Office will also focus on the water system projects they plan to implement in the barangays, particularly in far-flung mountain areas, of every town in the province next year.
Another project on the Agriculture Office’s 2018 agenda is the seed storage facility to store various good-quality seeds and seedlings to be appropriated to the farmers.
The PHP430-million budget, however, is still subject for deliberation and approval by the Cebu provincial government, Saragena said. (PNA)
