Oplan Galugad' conducted in Ilocos jails
« on: May 08, 2020, 09:12:13 PM »
LAOAG CITY -- Operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) here conducted simultaneous operations called “Oplan Galugad” to all prison cells in the province Wednesday morning.

Based on a memo from the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office, led by Provincial Director Jose Melencio Nartatez, the surprise jail search is to locate for guns, drugs or any other prohibited items inside the prison cells.

As early as 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, law enforcers along with K-9 dogs were deployed at the Bureau of Jail and Management-run prisons in Ilocos Norte, Laoag and Batac.

But before the actual search operation, inmates were subjected to body search.

At the BJMP-Laoag, Police Chief Inspector Rommel Ramos of the Laoag City PNP said 226 male and 28 female inmates were searched before they were sent out of their prison cells before “Oplan Galugad” was carried out.

The surprise search only yielded a pair of scissors and rolled-up cigarette butt.

The cigarette butt, however, will be subjected to laboratory examination to further verify the ingredients used. (PNA)
