Car firm backs gov’t program on responsible driving

DAVAO CITY – A car motor company is rallying behind the government’s program on safe and responsible driving, bringing to Davao its test drive roadshow on globally recognized safe driving programs.

Starting its four-day roadshow and advocacy on Wednesday, Ford Philippines reinforces its commitment to safety through the Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) program to Dabawenyos.

Ford Philippines assistant vice president for Communications Edward Joseph Francisco said the program is in support to the government's campaign on road safety and responsible driving.

He said the DSFL program is already on its 10th year and the Davao roadshow this week was their first in Mindanao.

For this year, he said the company wants to tap 1,500 drivers to participate in the DSFL training sessions if only to update them on the latest techniques as well as enhance their skills on safe driving.

"This will also serve as a review for those already on-the-know of driving vehicles," he said. Francisco said the DSFL is a United Nations-recognized training initiatives that educate drivers about smart and safe driving skills to help minimize road accidents and promote fuel-efficient driving.

The focus this year, he said will be the inclusion of public utility vehicle drivers such as bus, jeepney, school bus, and taxi drivers.

The topics also included Distracted Driving in order for drivers to be more acquainted and be aware of the Distracted Driving Law in the country.

Ford launched DSFL in 2008 and to date more than 20,000 Filipinos have participated in the sessions.

This has been customized in the Philippines to reflect the local driving environment and road conditions.

"We will continue to help raise awareness about driver and road safety as well as the dangers of distracted driving," Francisco said.

Meanwhile, Rodel Gallega, vice president for marketing and sales, said the Ford Island Conquest which runs from October 6 to 8 at SM Lanang Premier Parking Lot, is Ford Philippines' ultimate test drive experience that allows customers to test drive the Everest mid-size SUV, EcoSport compact SUV, and the segment-defining Ranger pickup.

Car enthusiasts can enjoy the test drive arena that features an outdoor course with a water-wading drive-thru to highlight key features and capabilities of the Everest and Ranger.

"Davao is a strong market for Ford and we are excited to bring the Ford Island Conquest here after a series of successful rollout in Metro Manila, Luzon and Visayas," he said. (Digna D. Banzon/PNA)
