GUIGUINTO, Bulacan -- Police intelligence operatives rescued Monday night a Korean national who was reportedly abducted by suspected members of a Chinese gang in Malate, Manila and brought to a place in Barangay Sta. Cruz here in the morning of the same day.
Supt. Marlon Santos, chief of the Provincial Intelligence Branch and concurrent officer-in-charge of the Bulacan Police, on Tuesday identified the rescued victim as 42-year-old Yeum Sun Ki.
Santos said a still unidentified Chinese national was also rescued from the safehouse of the Chinese kidnappers. No other information was given about the Chinese victim.
In an initial report sent to Central Luzon Police regional director, Chief Supt. Amador Corpus, Santos said the Embassy of the Republic of Korea received information that a group of Chinese men forcibly took the Korean victim in Malate, Manila and was later brought to a safehouse in Barangay Sta. Cruz where he was detained.
Santos said the Korean Embassy emailed the information to the Guiguinto Police, which sent intelligence operatives to the location.
He said the Guiguinto Police also informed the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Kidnapping Group of the incident.
He said at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, one of the occupants of the alleged safehouse went out of the gate on board a car, prompting undercover policemen to flag him down.
Santos said the suspect was taken into police custody while waiting for the team from the PNP Anti Kidnapping Group and representatives of the Korean Embassy.
He said when the intelligence team confirmed the whereabouts of the victim, the police operatives swooped in on the safehouse and safely rescued the Korean and the unidentified Chinese.
Five Chinese nationals, whose identities are still being verified, were arrested.
Santos said the Guiguinto Police turned over the arrested suspects to the PNP Anti Kidnapping Group for further investigation while the kidnap victims were safely turned over to representatives of the Korean and Chinese Embassies. (PNA)
