The dazzle of dancing colorful lights at different beer gardens and night clubs in the so-called “red light district” of the province has been momentarily “switched off” after Saturday midnight as police and elections officials started enforcing the liquor ban in connection with Monday’s Barangay and Sanguniang Kabataan elections.

Bulacan police director Sr. Supt. Fernando Villanueva said police teams and election officials led by provincial election supervisor Sabino Mejarito has been making rounds of different nightspots here and in nearby Marilao town to ensure that the implementation of the liquor ban is strictly observed.

Villanueva said starting Sunday and up to Monday, no selling of liquors will be allowed on public places like the different beer gardens and nightspots located in this town and in other areas in the province.

“We are strictly enforcing the liquor ban as well as the total gun ban policy of the Comelec to ensure that the conduct of Monday’s election will peaceful and orderly,” Villanueva said.

He said police teams, in coordination with local election officials, are also manning Comelec-designated checkpoints in strategic areas along major thoroughfares in Bulacan as part of the peacekeeping strategies to ensure the conduct of an honest, orderly and peaceful elections.

Bocaue police chief Supt. Ronaldo de Jesus said Mejarito has talked and reminded owners of beer gardens and nightclubs on the enforcement of the liquor ban (PNA)
