Over 200 passengers bound for Cebu from Cagayan de Oro were stranded at sea early Friday after the engine of their passenger ship conked out during the trip.
Radio station dzBB reported that the passengers, instead of arriving in Cebu at 7 a.m.,
were still stranded between Siquijor and Bohol as of Friday morning. It cited initial information indicating the engine of the M/V Princess of the Ocean, a vessel owned by Sulpicio Lines, failed at about 1 a.m. Electric power in the ship was cut.
A separate report on dzRH radio said the vessel was carrying 225 passengers, including 16 children and 10 infants.
Myrna Po, one of the passengers, was quoted as saying on dzBB radio that they were relatively safe and did not experience any problems.
However, the Philippine Coast Guard said it could not contact the ship's captain, initially identified only as Ferrer, for further details about the ship's condition.
The Philippine Coast Guard has dispatched a team to rescue the stranded passengers. -
