Boy Abunda is NCCA Ambassador
« on: February 04, 2011, 09:24:22 AM »
National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Arts ambassador Boy Abunda will be in Davao City Friday to promote the Philippine International Arts Festival (PIAF) 2011.

NCCA Sub-commission on the Arts (SCA) head and PIAF director Ricardo de Ungria said the international event is in celebration of the National Arts Month which falls on February.

“PIAF is the biggest celebration of the arts in the country,” De Ungria said.

He said PIAF is a month-long activity being conducted by the NCCA nationwide.

“It aims to promote Philippine culture and the arts, and highlights the empowerment of the Filipino creativity and imagination,” he said.

He said this year’s celebration will be a call to hope, a challenge to act, an invitation to commit, a celebration of creativity, and an affirmation of the Filipino’s inner strength that can be a catalyst for social transformation.

As its contribution to the PIAF celebration, NCCA’s National Committee on Literary Arts is also holding the Taboan: International Writers Festival on February 10-12 at Hotel Mandaya in Davao City.

Taboan is already on its third year, the first two years of which were held in Luzon and Visayas.

“This time Taboan will be held in Davao and will focus on Mindanao-based writers and the island group’s literature,” De Ungria said.

Abunda and De Ungria are urging Mindanaoans and the Filipinos in general to take part and witness in the various activities scheduled in celebration of the country’s culture and arts.

Earlier, De Ungria met with Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to inform that Davao City has been chosen to be the Focus City for PIAF events in Mindanao.

In response, Mayor Carpio declared February 6 to 12, 2011 as Philippine International Arts Festival Week in the city.

Three flagship projects of the festival will be implemented in the city during the week namely, the 3rd TABOAN International Writers Festival of the Committee on Literary Arts and the Cinema Rehiyon3 of the Committee on Cinema, and the Organik Muzik of the Committee on Music.

Also, the “Panit-Bukog” Traveling Exhibition of the Committee on Visual Arts will be held in Davao at the same time, as well the International Rondalla Festival in Tagum in the third week of February. There will also be architectural exhibitions, musical performances, and dance shows in the same period at the different malls in Davao and in the Museo Davaoeno as well, De Ungria added. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
