TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija, Aug. 11 -- All village officials of this first class municipality were warned against involvement in any illicit activities, particularly illegal drugs and illegal gambling, amidst police's intensified campaign against these.
Mayor Nerivi Santos-Martivez told village heads that she will never intervene nor ask favor from the police for cases involving drugs and gambling, owing to the national government drive against such vices.
"I will never ever ask favor from our policemen in regards to that matter," Martinez said.
She said the Nueva Ecija police director, Senior Supt. Antonio Yarra, has sent her a communication informing her of supposed illegal gambling activities within the municipality.
Situated north of Cabanatuan City, this municipality is fast becoming another center of business in the province.
"Be cautious with the activities in our villages especially in regard to illegal gambling and drugs because the campaign of the national government against that is really tough," Martinez added.
She asked village officials to expect more and frequent police operations against the vices.
She urged them to cooperate in maintaining law and order in their respective jurisdictions.
The mayor has also expressed support to the smoking ban in public places. Thus, a huge reminder on this is displayed in front of the town hall and other conspicuous places. (PNA)
