COTABATO CITY -- The city police office here has received about 120 new police officers as it beefed up security around the city.
Chief Supt. Cedrick Train, police regional director for Central Mindanao, personally graced the turnover ceremonies of 120 new police recruits after the Cotabato City Peace and Order Council (CCPOC) meeting here over the weekend.
Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, who chairs the CCPOC, said the additional police force will ensure security of the city’s more than 300,000 residents
“They will be here for at least a year,” Train told reporters, referring to the augmentation police force.
Sayadi lauded PNP Director Gen. Ronald Dela Rosa, Chief Supt. Train and Maj. Gen. Arnel dela Vega, 6th Infantry Division chief, for the additional security.
Accompanying the new police force is the assumption of new city police director, Senior Supt. Rolly Octavio who replaced Senior Supt. Victor Valencia.
Peace and order situation of the city have greatly improved since last year with Sayadi regularly leading “Ronda Patrol,” a police-led security measure around the city during the hours when crimes usually transpired.
The “Ronda Patrol” was also a strategy to get rid city streets of minors and illegal drug personalities.
Octavio said the new police force are now deployed to four police stations across the city.(PNA)
