The blue jeep-type police vehicle that fell off a cliff in Mantalongon, Dalaguete, Cebu, killing two policemen and a civilian driver last week, had a recent maintenance checkup, but the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) will still look into the possibility that the incident was caused by a mechanical problem.
CPPO Director Patrocinio Comendador also reminded police station chiefs to inspect their patrol cars before hitting the road.
Two policemen and a municipal driver were killed after the patrol jeep they were riding fell into a 60-foot ravine in Mantalongon, Dalaguete in southern Cebu at dawn Thursday. They were driving back to the police station after securing a benefit dance when the accident occurred.
Investigators are looking at human error, a mechanical problem or bad weather as probable cause of the accident.
A liquor test showed that the policemen were not drunk.
