Batanes celebrates 232nd Foundation Day

CITY OF CAUAYAN, Isabela, July 1 (PNA) -- The Province of Batanes has marked on July 1 its 232nd Foundation Day with celebrations that started even a week ago, a tourism official said.

Hegel Ruiz-Valones, designated provincial tourism coordinator, said the Batanes foundation day—dubbed as Ivatan Festival has been known nationwide and the name has been used to denote the people of Batanes and the language they speak.

This year’s theme is “Kultural at Kapaligiran; Yaman ng mga Ivatan – Ating Pangalagaan”

Various activities are now being conducted in line with the foundation day like novena masses, ethno-sports Olympics featuring indigenous games, agro- industrial tourism and trade fair, cultural presentation, sale and display or agri-fishery products and beauty pageant among others, Valones added.
