Seven persons died while two others were wounded in separate incidents during the New Year's Eve celebrations in Manila, the police reported.
Inspector Armando Macaraeg, chief of the MPD-Homicide Section, identified the fatalities as Rayner Pallones, 26, of Old Sta. Mesa, Manila; Noel Leonardo, 45, of Tondo; Rodel Rodriguez, 19, of Sta. Ana; Jemar Rupatan, Ronel Alontoc, Jesus Latude Jr., of Sta. Cruz; and Elpidio de Juan, 28, of Tondo.
The incidents occurred between 9 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Saturday.
Police said Pallones was stabbed by a certain “Ricky†while trying to pacify a quarrel.
De Juan was shot dead while his aunt, Reynalda, was wounded after being hit by astray bullet in the leg. De Juan’s nephew, James Magal, 10, was also wounded by stray bullet which hit him in the foot.
Alontoc, Latude, Rupatan and Rodriguez were stabbed dead by unidentified assailants while having a drinking spree.
Leonardo, on the other hand, committed suicide inside their house on Masinop St. Tondo, at 10:30 p.m. Friday, police investigators said. (PNA)
