ROSALES, Pangasinan – Authorities have arrested four individuals in connection with an attempt to smuggle people to Pangasinan using an ambulance owned by the local government unit (LGU) of Sta. Barbara town.
The ambulance was intercepted at the boundary of the province in Rosales town, where policemen manning the checkpoint discovered two persons from Quezon City trying to get in.
Based on the police investigation, the ambulance was driven by Mark Arky Idos, who was accompanied by Dennis Paragas, both residents of Sta. Barbara town. They were allegedly instructed by their Rural Health Unit (RHU) to fetch live-in partners Elicia Von Giese and Daryson Paragas.
Giese and Paragas allegedly came from Quezon City onboard a car but were barred entry upon reaching the border checkpoint, the police report said.
“The couple eventually made a U-turn and alighted (from) their car along the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway exit, and called their relative from Sta. Barbara. Moments later, an ambulance came to fetch them,” the report added.
The ambulance, however, was intercepted upon its return to the province where the policemen saw the two familiar faces of the live-in partners who were earlier denied entry to the province.
The couple, the ambulance driver and his companion are currently under the custody of Rosales Police and charges in violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act will be filed against them.
Under the extremely enhanced community quarantine (EECQ), Governor Amado Espino III ordered that entry to the province of unauthorized persons outside residence (UPOR) is strictly prohibited.
The province of Pangasinan is under the EECQ until midnight on April 30. (PNA)
