BACOLOD CITY –The Department of Health has allotted PHP65 million for the construction and rehabilitation of the City Health Office (CHO) here.
Bacolod City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya, who facilitates the project implementation, said in a press briefing Tuesday the DOH approved the budget based on the feasibility study and agreement between the CHO and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Teams from the DOH and DPWH met last week to discuss the project's implementation, he added.
The CHO compound is located along Galo-BBB Streets in Barangay 20.
Gasataya said he lobbied for the project to decongest the volume of patients seeking medical services at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH).
Majority of the patients at CLMMRH, the only DOH hospital in Negros Island, comes from Bacolod.
Gasataya said the DOH has already released PHP20 million for the CHO project which will be implemented by the DPWH.
He added that the bidding is scheduled to start in September.
The rest of the funding would be released by 2018, the lawmaker said.
Gasataya said the once the construction and rehabilitation of the CHO facilities is completed, the city government can also use the building for an office, medical clinic, or lying-in center. (PNA)
