BACOLOD CITY -- The Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology (BNEFIT) is eyeing to produce 5,000 jobs in the healthcare information management (HIM) industry by year 2022.
Lawyer Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, executive director of BNEFIT, said it is projected that 210,000 jobs will be available in the Philippines’ HIM industry and it is expected to generate USD5 billion in revenues.
“We hope that 5,000 of these jobs will be in Bacolod City,” she said.
BNEFIT, in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and MedStar Philippines HealthCare Information Management Corporation, held the 1st Bacolod HIM Conference at SMX Convention Center Bacolod on Thursday and Friday.
The conference gathered local stakeholders to scale-up the potentials of the countryside in attracting HIM jobs, opportunities and investments.
DICT Undersecretary Monchito Ibrahim, who was the keynote speaker on the second day, said Bacolod is capable of achieving even more than the target 5,000 jobs mainly because of its huge talent pool potential.
It just have to work on changing the mindset that HIM is not a call center job, he added
Themed “Building Pathways for Digital Healthcare Careers,” the conference was attended by about 300 graduating high school and college students of medical, health, and information technology-related tracks and courses from various schools in Negros Occidental.
Raymond Ang, director of HIM Association of the Philippines, presented the outlook of HIM industry in the Philippines.
The students were also oriented on topics like challenges and opportunities in growing HIM industry in the countryside, careers and job opportunities for graduates, digital careers, and creating a thriving ecosystem for HIM-related investments, jobs and opportunities, among others.
Towards the end of the two-day conference, Ibrahim led industry stakeholders in their pledge of commitment to help achieve 5,000 HIM-related jobs for Bacolod.(PNA)
