Baclaran Galleria Shopping Complex Ordered Close
« on: November 12, 2008, 12:26:27 AM »
After resuming operations last week without the suitable permits and clearances, the city government of Pasay on Tuesday ordered the closure of the newly-rebuilt Baclaran Galleria shopping complex in Baclaran area.

The closure order will be served on Wednesday by Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) officer-in-charge Garry Domingo as a result of the recommendations of a BPLO team that inspected the building last Monday.

"The building itself is still under construction, but when we inspected it on Monday, there are already eight to ten stores that have opened, when, in fact, the city engineer office has yet to declare it safe for occupancy. Wala pa silang occupancy permit, at lahat nung nagbukas ng tindahan, wala pang mga business permits," the BPLO head told the PNA.

Domingo said the building complex still had no occupacy permit from the city engineer's office, and a business permit from the BPLO, when it partially opened last Saturday.

The reconstructed Baclaran Galleria mall, which was razed to the ground in a ten-hour fire last January 3, is owned and operated by the Quezon City-based Transnational Construction Corp. (TCC).

He said Pasay City Mayor Peewee Trinidad has been apprised of the TCC's violations, and ordered a check if the company's real property tax payments are in order.

After serving the closure order, the BPLO will then forward the matter to the city's legal office for the filing of appropriate criminal charges, he added.

The building will only be allowed to reopen until the TCC has complied with the requirements.

The surprise inspection was conducted by the BPLO of the reconstructed Baclaran Galleria mall following the complaint filed by a group of nine former tenants who claimed to have been swindled by the TCC management. - PNA
