Health dept delivers assistance to 'Nina'-affected towns in Mimaropa region
MANILA, Jan. 11 (PNA) -- Mimaropa’s regional health office recently extended financial assistance and medicines to municipalities in Oriental Mindoro and Marinduque that were affected by Typhoon Nina.
Director of the Mimaropa regional health office, Dr. Eduardo Janairo, reported on Wednesday they provided PHP3 million in financial assistance to the municipalities of Calapan City and Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro, and PHP2 million each to Boac, Buenavista, Torrijos, Mogpog, Sta. Cruz and Gasan in Marinduque.
“We are continuing our monitoring and assessment as to the extent of damage caused by the typhoon and provide the necessary preparation for another low-pressure area that is currently affecting areas of Mimaropa,†he said. Mimaropa covers the island provinces of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.
Janairo noted that health facilities in the region were placed under Code Blue during and in the aftermath of ‘Nina’, requiring all medical personnel to be ready to treat casualties 24 hours.
He also guaranteed that additional medicines will be sent immediately if needed and assured that the Regional Health Emergency Management Service (RHEMS) will closely coordinate with local government units for the immediate provision of medical support.
The DOH Central Office has provided the Mimaropa health office a total of PHP30 million for the purchase of medicines and financial assistance to calamity-stricken areas in the region.
