Typhoon 'Yolanda' victims in Antique get 64 fiber glass boatsSAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique, March 10 (PNA) -– Poor fisherfolk families in Culasi town, Antique affected by typhoon "Yolanda" in 2013 received 64 boats made of fiber glass on Friday to help them
rebuild their lives.
Antique Gov. Rhodora Cadiao, Erwin Ilaya, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) provincial officer, and Nicolasito “Nick†Calawag, Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA) chief, led the distribution of the boats.
Allette Gayatin, a senior aquaculturist at the OPA said in an interview that these boats were distributed to the fisherfolk in the coastal town of Culasi as part of the AHON program of BFAR.
Each fisherfolk who received the motorized boat had been identified by the local government unit (LGU) as among the poorest in their sector.
As this developed, Calawag said that Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel “Manny†Pinol will be in Antique on March 16 to again distribute 60 units of fiber glass boats to poor fisherfolk families registered with BFAR’s Fish-R program.
The boats will be distributed also in Culasi town. Ten recipients will be from the town of Tibiao, five from Sebaste and 10 from Libertad. The rest of the boats will be given to Culasi fisherfolk.
Each boat will be shared by two recipient fisherfolk so that more poor fishermen could benefit.
Aside from the boats, there will be two units of rainwater collectors that will be given to the fisherfolk association in Maningning, Culasi and four in Caluya island municipality.
Six fish aggregating devices or "payaos" will also be equally given to fishermen's associations in Libertad, Anini-y and Tobias Fornier.
Gayatin added that these fishing boats, rain water collectors, and fish aggregating devices would be released in response to the governor’s request to DA Assistant Secretary Hansel Didulo last March 3. The DA official was among those who attended the meeting also graced by Senator Loren Legarda.(PNA)
