BACOLOD CITY – The place of residence of Bacolod’s second coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) fatality in Purok Sabes, Barangay Villamonte has been sealed off as a measure to contain the infection.
"In principle, the area has already been sealed off,” village chief Rommel Flores said on Thursday, adding that they were just finalizing the households that would be covered by the lockdown – either those within the 25-meter or 50-meter radius.
The 69-year-old man, who had no recent travel history, passed away on April 9, hours after he was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here.
However, the result of his post-mortem swab test was released only on April 21, and he was listed as the eighth confirmed case and the second Covid-19 fatality in Bacolod.
Flores said he has directed the purok officials to be vigilant and has asked the Bacolod City Police Office Station 4 to also keep watch of the area.
“We want to protect our residents. We are prepared to sustain the program to take care of the people, especially those in Purok Sabes,” he added.
On Wednesday, personnel of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office disinfected Purok Sabes and its neighboring areas.
Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, chairman of Bacolod City Inter-Agency Task Force Against Covid-19, said he visited Purok Sabes on Thursday and has observed that the area was congested.
Familiaran said he was concerned with the health status of the residents since the family members of Patient No. 8 have also been going around the place.
“I advised the people here to seek medical attention if they have flu-like symptoms. I’m also hoping and praying that the family members of the patient will have negative results,” he said.
Swab samples were already taken from the nine members of the patient’s household. They have been isolated in one of the city’s patient care centers on Wednesday afternoon.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the contract tracing of persons who have been exposed to the patient from Barangay Villamonte is ongoing.
“With this sad happening, we express our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the patient. This is news that should remind us all of the seriousness of this health crisis we are facing,” Leonardia added. (PNA)
