SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique -- The provincial government is asking all Antiquenos to lend pre-war pictures they have been keeping to be included in the Binirayan Festival grand photo exhibit in December.
Provincial Information Officer Eric Otayde, also executive director of the Binirayan Festival 2017, on Wednesday said the provincial government intends to put up a photo exhibit as one of the innovations for the annual festival celebration.
Pictures of people, churches, homes, landscapes and other edifices before World War II are considered treasures which the provincial government would like to help restore and be exhibited to give tourists and Antiquenos alike a glimpse of their glorious past.
“We need those old cherished pictures kept in your treasure chest so that we could appreciate more our past as a province,” said Otayde in an interview.
He said there are not many pre-war pictures that have survived and so if Antiquenos who still have these kind of photos can lend it to the provincial government through the PIO then they will be sharing great memories to others who would visit the forthcoming exhibit.
Antique in history is the first Malay settlement in Panay island and that it bore many great men and women who took part in the revolutionary movement.
The province also had several churches built during the Spanish occupation.
Otayde said other activities will also be introduced in the Binirayan Festival this year such as the Antique International Marathon offering big cash prizes of PHP100,000 for first place in the 42 kilometer run, PHP50,000 for second place, and PHP25,000 for third place.
The 18 towns of Antique will also participate in the “Parada Ng Lahi” featuring their respective municipal festivals.
There will also be a grand ballroom of Antiquenos who will be coming home to join the celebration on December 26. Those who will attend the grand ballroom will have to pay a PHP5,000-worth dinner plate as part of the fundraising for the waiting shed with toilets to be put up in front of the eight hospitals in the province.
Otayde said that there are more new activities to be held the whole month of December that will make the Binirayan Festival something to look forward to. (PNA)
