« on: May 06, 2020, 01:18:22 PM »
TAGAYTAY CITY, Cavite -- Feasibility studies for 15 infrastructure projects for air, land, and water to promote the interconnectivity among regions in the country got the support of Regional Development Council (RDC)-Calabarzon.

During the RDC 3rdquarter full council meeting at Summit Ridge Hotel, here Thursday, RDC-Calabarzon chair Hermilando Mandanas, who is also Batangas Governor, steered the council meeting that discussed strategic actions and outcomes of the development policies and projects implemented by the council members.

According to National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Region IV-A Director and concurrent RDC Vice-Chair Luis G. Banua the projects are expected to enhance transportation, trading, boost the localities’ economy and tourism offerings.

“The projects will also give way to increased investments, productivity and employment, improve resilience and enhance peace and order in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon provinces,” Banua said.

He said the projects will result in higher gross regional domestic product.
Banua cited top-listed projects and the sole “air” project on the development of Sangley Point as a domestic airport.

A former US military facility, Sangley Point is groomed to be a domestic airport to decongest the busy Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) by transferring domestic flights to Cavite.

Road projects getting the RDC’s green light include: Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay-Nasugbu Road, Bay-Antipolo Road; Mauban-Atimonan Road, General Nakar-Umiray-Dingalan Road (Aurora); Quezon-Bicol Expressway; Cavitex-C5 San Jose del Monte Road; Pangasinan-Nueva Ecija-Aurora Expressway; and BRT System 2 EDSA-Binangonan.

RDC also supported the Cavite (Ternate/Naic)-Corregidor Island-Bataan (Mariveles) Mega Bridge, Real-Polillo Island-Larap, Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte Port System,  Calamba-NCR-Rizal Ferry System, Batangas-Tingloy Island-Puerto Galera Bridge, Batangas-Calapan (Oriental Mindoro) Mega Bridge and San Andres (Quezon) – Masbate – Bogo (Cebu) Port System under its “water” projects.

With the RDC IV-A’s endorsement, monitoring of the conduct of the feasibility studies will come next, Banua said.

The studies will be endorsed for funding prior to implementation.

RDC is the primary institution that coordinates and sets the directions of all economic and social development efforts in the regions and serves as the counterpart of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) at the sub-national level.

The council members, composed of officials from the provincial and local government units, regional government line agencies, state universities and colleges and private sector, hold a quarterly forum to discuss concerns affecting the development of the region.

Cavite province, through its Governor Jesus Crispin Remulla played host for two consecutive RDC meetings. (PNA)
