Murder victim’s friend charged in court
CEBU CITY, Philippines – The murder case against Jonnelle Enfectana for allegedly killing her friend and co-worker Lynn Vi Ebarita has been elevated to the court.
Mandaue City Assistant Prosecutor Bienvenido Mabanto Jr. said there was “probable cause†to charge the 26-year-old call center agent with murder “in conspiracy with other person or persons whose identity are still to be ascertained.â€
“The evidence... may be circumstantial... (but) this investigator is of the finding and opinion that this web of circumstantial evidence, if taken together, would result to an undeniable conclusion that respondent, Jonnelle Enfectana, is probably guilty for the crime of murder...,†Mabanto said in his resolution.
With the case filed in court, Enfectana was transferred from her detention cell at the Mandaue City Police Office’s station 2 to the Mandaue City Jail.
Mabanto said he gave weight to the statement of witnesses who saw Ebarita, Enfectana and a certain Evelyn hours before the murder.
The three were seen together after the Sinulog grand parade in Cebu City and later at the Nikkei Garden Hotel in Barangay (village) Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
The prosecutor also said that Enfectana’s statements to police were often contradictory.
Also, Mabanto noted that Ebarita’s wallet was later found in a boarding house where Enfectana stays.
But Enfectana's lawyer, Michael Enriquez, insisted that there was no direct evidence that linked his client to the murder of Ebarita, also a call center agent. /With a report by Correspondent Chris A. Ligan
