𝐈𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐚 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧 – On 26 December 2024, a day after Christmas, the last four (4) remaining ASG members of Basilan-based ASG with four (4) other followers voluntarily surrendered and presented themselves to Brigadier General Alvin V Luzon, the Commander of the 101st Infantry (Three Red Arrows) Brigade in Brgy Guiong, Sumisip, Basilan.
The successful facilitation of the said surrender was due to the relentless effort of 101st Infantry Brigade, 32IB, 4SFBn, 18IB, and 45IB in collaboration with Sumisip LGU headed by Mayor Jul-Adnan Hataman and Vice Mayor Gulam “Boy” Hataman, MILF-CCCH Basilan headed by Hadji Samad Atain; and 114BC, MILF-BIAF headed by Amir Sauran Mingkong and Rajan Abdurahman, Deputy Commander, MILF Guerilla Warfare.
The four (4) remaining ASG members—Tawakkal Bayali @JABER, Abul Bayali @YAJID, Julhair Bayali @JUHAH, Hasib Tularan @DADIH—and the four (4) cohorts—Yusup Bayali, Marjan Bayali, Makrin Bayali, and Apong Upaman—surrendered and returned to the folds of the law and mainstream society, for they desired to live normal lives with their families. They brought along with them five (5) high-powered firearms: one (1) M203 grenade launcher; three (3) M16 rifles; and one (1) cal 30 carbine rifle, with assorted ammunitions.
In his message, Honorable Jul-Adnan Hataman emphasized that the Sumisip LGU and the government, as a whole, want to have lasting peace to open its door for continuing progress and sustainable development. Their surrender is crucial for the municipality of Sumisip as he thanked the military for their dedication and commitment to ensuring and providing a safe and secure environment for the Basileños.
Brigadier General Luzon expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Mayor Jul-Adnan and Vice Mayor Boy Hataman for leading the facilitation of the surrender. In his message, Brigadier General Luzon said, “We are very thankful and welcome the surrender of the Tawakkal Bayali group. I lauded their decision to lay down arms and finally join mainstream society. Your surrender today is not only for you, your families, and your future but also the province of Basilan, paving the way for peace and development. Let us altogether declare that Basilan is now ASG-free!”
The surrendered personalities will initially be under the custody of Sumisip LGU, specifically with Mayor Hataman. LGU Sumisip intends to conduct a thorough intervention for the surrenderees while undergoing the social integration program.
With the surrender of ASG Tawakkal Bayali Group, Basilan Province is finally ASG-free. Their surrender is the “best Christmas gift” to the people of Basilan—a significant step towards lasting peace that will pave the way for further progress and development for Basilan.
