Two local officials who were abducted and brought as “human shield†by the fleeing rogue Moro Islamic Liberation front (MILF) over the weekend, were released in an undisclosed place in Kalamansig town, Sultan Kudarat province, Central Mindanao, a regional Army spokesman reported on Monday.
Maj. Armand F. Rico, spokesman of Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMincom) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), identified the released village officials as Ruel Sunga and Jun Colao of Barangay Sangay, Kalamansig town.
“The abducted village officials were released through a local politician's effort,†said Maj. Rico.
He said they were released unhurt, and were immediately reunited with their respective families after medical check up in nearby hospital in Kalamansig.
The two village officials were abducted and used as “human shield†after an undetermined number of heavily armed lawless MILF groups stormed the village of Sangay over the weekend, said Rico. - PNA
