CEBU, Philippines - An American national died allegedly while having sex with a public school teacher inside
a hotel in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, Tuesday evening.
Responding paramedics of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation rushed Henry Peterson, Jr. 57,
also a teacher at EduWorld International Language School in Lapu-Lapu City, to the Lapu-Lapu
District Hospital but Dr. Arceli Opura pronounced him dead on arrival.
The incident caught the attention of Department of Education-7 director Recaredo Borgonia,
who immediately ordered an investigation into the incident.
Based on the information gathered by the police, Peterson, together with the 43-year-old woman (name withheld),
who is a public school teacher, checked into BSM Hotel in Barangay Basak at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Police said they received information that Peterson, who temporarily lived at No. U205 Mactan Oasis Garden
in Sitio Soong, Barangay Mactan, was married to a Filipina but they had separated.
Insp. Juan Capacio, head of the Homicide Section of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Station said at about 11:20 p.m.,
hotel staff heard the woman shouting for help because the American suddenly collapsed.
Police investigators said the woman told them that while they were having sex, Peterson
suddenly collapsed while blood dripped from his nose.
Hotel staff immediately called the ERUF, which brought the foreigner to the hospital.
Police found no sign of struggle in Peterson’s body. But the victim’s was still submitted for
an autopsy to determine what really caused his death.
Investigators initially believed that the American national died of heart attack.
Meanwhile, after hearing reports on the incident, Borgonia immediately ordered Lapu-Lapu City Schools
division officer-in-charge Eduardo Umpad to conduct an investigation and submit a report and recommendation.
In an interview over DyLA, Borgonia said he was disturbed by the report, which, if proven true, is a form of
conduct unbecoming by a public school teacher who should not be a model for children.
According to Borgonia, the investigation of Umapad would determine if there is a need to conduct an
administrative investigation against the woman teacher on the ground of immorality. — (FREEMAN)
