GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- A total of 877 police commissioned and non-commissioned officers in Region 12 have been promoted to the next higher ranks.
The newly-promoted personnel formally donned their new ranks following a mass oath-taking ceremony on Thursday held at the Police Regional Office (PRO)-12 headquarters in Barangay Tambler here.
Supt. Romel Galgo Jr., PRO-12 public information officer, said the promoted police officers were among the personnel from the region who qualified for the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) second level regular promotion program for the first semester of 2017.
He said they all passed the examination and stringent vetting process conducted by the PNP promotion board and the National Police Commission.
“The process included thorough screening and interviews that are to make sure that the promotion will be given to deserving personnel,” he said.
Galgo said the promoted personnel comprised of 37 police commissioned and 840 non-commissioned officers.
He said the commissioned officers were promoted to the ranks of Inspector to Superintendent while the non-commissioned officers were elevated to the ranks of Police Officer 2 to Senior Police Officer 4.
The most senior officer promoted was Chief Insp. Benito Rotia, who moved to the next rank of Superintendent.
Chief Supt. Cedrick Train, Region 12 police director, urged the newly-promoted personnel to honor their new ranks and the PNP uniform by striving to improve their character and be more responsible and competent.
He said utmost respect should be rendered to their ranks and uniforms, which symbolize their authority to represent the government in enforcing the law and maintaining peace and order.
Train, who led the mass oath-taking ceremony, noted that every rank manifests specific functions and implies added responsibility.
“Keep in mind that the added rank means additional responsibility to your tasks, especially in upholding the core values of the PNP,” he said.
The PNP core values are Maka-diyos (God-fearing), Makabayan (Nationalistic), Makatao (Humane), and Makakalikasan (Environment-Friendly).
The police official reminded them that they were not promoted because of their connections and patrons, especially politicians, but due to their competencies, skills and capabilities.
“Promotion means that you should further increase capabilities, skills, competence and knowledge,” he said.
Train challenged the promoted personnel to keep their solemn oaths and “always strive to be better” in character.(PNA)
