Over 700 new voters listed in Bacolod during Women’s Day special registration

BACOLOD CITY, March 9 (PNA) -- A total of 731 additional voters were registered by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in this city during the special registration held in celebration of the International Women’s Day.

The new registrants can already vote in the Katipunan ng Kabataan and barangay elections in October.

Records of the Comelec-Bacolod released Thursday showed that for ages 15 to 17, registered were 151 girls and 81 boys while for ages 18 and above, 363 females and 110 males were listed.

For senior citizens, 18 females and eight males were also able to register.

City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said that although the special registration aimed to prioritize women and girls only, the Comelec staff also catered to male registrants since there was enough time to accommodate them.

In Bacolod, the special registration was held in three sites: in the areas of Bacolod East hosted by Barangay Estefania; Bacolod North, held in Barangay Mandalagan; and Negros Occidental National High School.

The East included Barangays Granada, Alangilan, Villamonte, Montevista, and Vista Alegre while the North covered Barangays 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Bata, and Banago.

Comelec Resolution No. 10175 directed the holding of special satellite registration activities for females in pre-determined venues in various cities across the country.

All concerned Offices of the Election Officer (OEOs) were tasked to create a special satellite registration team composed of the election offer and at least four election assistants, if possible, and to identify an accessible and convenient venue for the conduct of the satellite registration where qualified residents will be accommodated.

The resolution promulgated on February 27, 2017 designated a full day of voter registration where women and girl applicants are prioritized in recognition of the vital role of women as partners in the pursuit of the economic, social, cultural and political development pursuant to the mandate of the Magna Carta of Women under Republic Act No. 9710. John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
