6 persons hit by lightning in Pangasinan town
VILLASIS, Pangasinan, July 1 (PNA) -- Six persons were hospitalized for first and second degree burns when they were struck by lightning in two separate places during a thunderstorm that happened one after the other before 5:00 p.m. of Tuesday, June 30.
A report of the Villasis police stated five of the victims are farmers from Barangay Capulaan and another from Sto. Tomas town but was hit by a lightning in Poblacion, Villasis, near the town's Catholic Church, just at the back of the town hall.
The five from Barangay Capulaan were tending their rice fields when the thunderstorm came and were forced to go to a hut for shelter from the rain. But while they were inside, the hut was struck by lightning.
On the other hand, the victim from Sto. Tomas town was fetching his children from school when the rain came and was forced to seek shelter under a tree that was struck by a lightning.
The police could not yet give the names of the victims.
Chief Inspector Jesus Manalo, chief of the Villasis police, said all the victims were rushed to the Urdaneta District Hospital for treatment and five have so far been discharged. (PNA)
