6 DPWH-12 job workers face dismissal after illegal drug test
KORONADAL CITY -- The regional office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-12) here will dismiss six job order workers after they were found positive of illegal drug use.
Engr. Reynaldo Tamayo, DPWH-12 regional director, said the job order workers were among those subjected to mandatory drug test as the regional office supports a nationwide campaign against illegal drugs.
More than 300 employees of DPWH-12 were told to undergo drug test to ensure the government office is free of illegal drug use.
He said more than 200 workers have undergone drug test while 163 others are scheduled Wednesday.
Tamayo said the six job order workers will have the option to submit their urine sample for confirmatory examination in Davao City.
"They should use the same urine sample in the confirmatory examination," Tamayo said, adding that the drug test will also be conducted in all DPWH district offices across the region.
"We are serious in this drive, those employees who were using illegal drugs should go," Tamayo said, adding one of those tested positive was a driver.
"It is very dangerous that our driver uses illegal drugs, that is putting the lives of his passengers in danger," he said.
Earlier, 10 government employees of Surallah, North Cotabato were tested positive of illegal drug use. Of the 10, eight were job order workers while the two were permanent employees.
The names of the employees were not revealed by police or the local government unit.
Region 12 is composed of the provinces of North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and the cities of Cotabato, Kidapawan, Koronadal, Tacurong and General Santos City. (PNA)
