LAOAG CITY, Aug. 11 — About 300 students and out-of-school youth who were hired under the summer special program of the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte will finally receive their salaries on August 15.
Sixty (60) percent of the beneficiaries' salary pegged at Php 280 per day, came the provincial government while 40 percent came from the Department of Labor and Employment.
The release of funds could have been made earlier in time for the enrollment of students but due to the detainment of the so-called Ilocos Six for a period of two months, the processing of financial documents was delayed.
Governor Ma. Imelda Josefa “Imee” Marcos said she regretted that the payment was delayed due to some unpredictable circumstances.
The summer special program for the employment of students aims to provide Ilocano youth the opportunity to earn money for their studies during vacations.
Aside from SPES, the Provincial Tourism Office also hired tourist aides composed of students, out of school youth and senior citizens to generate more jobs last summer. (PNA)
