3 mayors tied to illegal drugs surrender to PNP chief

MANILA, Aug. 5 (PNA) -- Two mayors from Lanao del Sur who are suspected of being involved in illegal drug activities, surrendered Friday to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Director General Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa.

”I would like to inform you that two suspected drug personalities from Lanao del Sur voluntarily surrendered to my office. They are incumbent Maguing Mayor Mamaulan Abinal Molok and former Mayor Mohammadali Abinal of Marantao, Lanao del Sur, husband of the incumbent mayor,” dela Rosa said as he presented the two officials to the press.

He said the two gave themselves up because they received information that their names are in President Rodrigo R. Duterte's watch list of politicians involved in illegal drugs.

”Gusto nila magbagong buhay, tumulong laban sa droga. Why run if you can help? Talagang involved sila, kaya nga sila nag-surrender. Inamin naman nila, (They want to start anew and help the war against illegal drugs. Why run if you can help? They were really involved in illegal drugs, that is why they surrendered. They admitted it,)” the PNP chief said, noting that the two were operating under a certain “Marimar” from 2001 to 2002.

Dela Rosa said the two mayors admitted that they distributed narcotics in Quiapo, Manila, Caloocan and Cavite from 2000 to 2002 but they denied that they were involved in the drug trade in their respective municipalities.

He also said that both mayors pledged to lead the war against illegal drugs in their municipalities.

Dela Rosa said the two will be sent to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), which will get their statements.

He noted that he will not offer the white house to them anymore as they could return to their respective municipalities after the investigation in the absence of arrest warrants against them.

Dela Rosa also said that he is expecting other local officials to surrender.

For their part, Molok and Abinal said they are willing to support the government's anti-narcotics campaign.

Meanwhile, Mayor Rasul Sangki of Ampatuan Maguindanao also surrendered to the CIDG to give his statement.

Dela Rosa said Sangki was earlier expected to surrender together with Molok and Abinal but he got stuck in traffic in Guadalupe.(PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
