BACOLOD CITY-- The Police Regional Office (PRO-18) will turn over its 3,495 personnel in Negros Occidental to the PRO-6 in Western Visayas after its deactivation on October 9 following the abolition of the Negros Island Region (NIR).

Based on the PRO-18 list as of Thursday, the personnel included 1,944 from Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office; 743 from Bacolod City Police Office; 274 from Regional Public Safety Battalion; 315 from Class Sinag-Lahi; and Class Masiklab, 219.

The total number is comprised of 158 police commissioned officers; 3,121 police non-commissioned officers; and 216 non-uniformed personnel.

The PRO-18 has a total of 5,387 policemen and staff. The remaining 1,892 personnel will be endorsed to the PRO-7 in Central Visayas.

Chief Superintendent Edmund Gonzales, acting director of PRO-NIR, said the turn-over rites is slated on September 29, although scheduling conflicts may delay it to October 4 or 5.

He added that they are coordinating with the PRO-6 and PRO-7 for the final schedules.

Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, public information officer of PRO-18, had earlier said they were preparing for a smooth transition of personnel, equipment and other properties to the PRO-6 in Iloilo City.

They will also turn over the cases handled by PRO-18, she added.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-18 will turn over 650 personnel to the regional offices in Western Visayas and Central Visayas.

These will include 411 personnel for Region 6, and 239 for Region 7.

Senior Superintendent Fred Trajeras Jr., regional director of BFP-18, went to the BFP-6 headquarters in Iloilo City on Monday for the informal turn-over of personnel and resources.

Trajeras added that clearing operations will continue at BFP-18, which is targeted to end before October 9.

After his stint in Negros Island, Trajeras will assume the post of assistant regional director for administration at the BFP-National Capital Region. (PNA)
