Press Release
PASIG CITY --- National Task Force against COVID 19 Chief Implementer and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr and Deputy Chief Implementer and testing czar Secretary Vivencio Dizon met with representatives of 21 US firms to strengthen the country’s existing partnerships with these companies and discuss strategies to address the COVID 19 pandemic to jumpstart the nation’s economic recovery.
During the 2021 Virtual Business Mission to the Philippines of the US-ASEAN Business Council held on Wednesday, May 26, the Task Force officials thanked the international business community for its active involvement in the country’s pandemic response, particularly their efforts to help access vaccines from different manufacturers.
Galvez proposed possible areas of collaboration, particularly in securing more vaccine doses from US-based manufacturers.
He likewise addressed the concerns raised by companies with regards to the inoculation of essential workers, which they hoped would include more sectors and frontline employees.
Dizon reiterated that the full support of the private sector is crucial, as this will help ensure that the country will get to the “finish line” of the pandemic.
He also thanked the US-ASEAN Business Council and its members for the investments they have made into the country’s Build-Build-Build infrastructure program, as well as in ongoing development projects in Clark, Pampanga.
Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez encouraged companies to start looking at New Clark City not only as a possible location for vaccine manufacturing, but also as a distribution and logistics hub for the Asian market.
Meanwhile, Council officials commended the NTF for the effective manner in which it has responded to the challenges brought about by the pandemic.
Senior Vice President and Regional Managing Director Ambassador Michael Michalak expressed the Councils’ full support to government interventions that would boost vaccine preparedness, vaccine confidence, and testing.
These measures, Michalak noted, would help fast track the opening up of the various sectors of ASEAN member-states’ economies.
