Masaligan Battalion Clashes with NPA Remnants in Negros Occidental, Seizes Firearms and Supplies
The 79th Infantry (Masaligan) Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, Philippine Army, engaged remnants of the Dismantled North Negros Front (NNF-D), a group of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA), in the hinterlands of Sitio Tauma, Brgy. Bandila, Toboso, Negros Occidental on December 13, 2024. The encounter, which lasted about 12 minutes, was a result of a tip from a concerned civilian about armed individuals involved in extortion and violence in the area.
During the clash, which involved roughly seven NPA fighters, the Masaligan troops seized several firearms, including an M16 assault rifle, a.38 revolver, magazines for various firearms, live ammunition, medical supplies, personal belongings, food, and subversive documents. No casualties were reported on the government side, though bloodstains were found leading toward the NPA's escape route.
Lt. Col. Calaoagan, commander of the Masaligan Battalion, praised the cooperation between the military and local communities in combating insurgency. He urged remaining NPA members to surrender and avail of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) for a peaceful life, emphasizing the bleak future for those continuing with the insurgency.
