DIGOS CITY – The management of Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative Inc. (Dasureco) has approved an allocation of PHP8 million for its "member-consumer-owners" (MCO) with monthly consumption of not more than 30-kilowatt-hour.
Ferdinand Canastra, Dasureco OIC-general manager, said Thursday the coop's “Pantawid Liwanag Kuryente Mo, May Tabang ang Dasureco” initiative is in line with the government's Bayanihan to Heal As One Act (RA 11469), signed by President Rodrigo Duterte last month to combat the 2019 coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
A Dasureco board resolution described the PHP8-million appropriation as part of the utility's social responsibility program to ease the impact of the pandemic on its poor consumer-members.
"The support fund will be given to residential ‘lifeline’ consumers of Dasureco which they considered as among the low-income sector whose monthly power consumptions will not exceed 30-kilowatt-hours per month," Canastra said.
He said MCOs consuming not less than 30KwH per month are also granted with a 60 percent “lifeline discount” in accordance with existing laws.
Based on Dasureco, there are at least 53,000 MCOs that can benefit from the program who will no longer be required to pay their power bills for March and April.
"And if in case the beneficiaries have paid their bills for March and April such payment will be considered as an advance payment for their power bills in May and June 2020," Canastra said.
Dasureco, which caters to power consumers in Davao del Sur and Davao Occidental, said it will send “Pantawid Liwanag" coupons to pre-identified beneficiaries as proof they are qualified for the free two-month electric bill. (PNA)
