The Iranian bulk carrier “M/V Iran Deyanat,” with two Filipinos on its 29-man crew, was released Oct. 10, by its Somali captors, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported today.

The Filipinos were identified as able seamen 44-year old Sergio Paloma of Leyte and 30-year old Reynaldo Uy of Davao. They are reported to be in “safe and good condition” and arrangements for their repatriation to Manila is done by the Philippine embassy in Muscat, Oman.

After the vessel and crew were released from captivity somewhere in Somalia, it is now heading for Muscat, where it is expected to arrive by Oct. 14, DFA spokesperson Claro Cristobal said.

The “M/V Iran Deyanat” was seized by Somali pirates on August 21 as the carrier plied the perilous Gulf of Aden which also embraces the failed state of Somalia. Because of Somalia’s state of affairs, negotiations for the release of all hostages in at least 10 incidents of high seas piracy in the last quarter have been tense and dangerous. - PNA
