Two members of the Tacurong City Police in Sultan Kudarat province tested positive in illegal drug use after a random drug test conducted last week, a police official said.

Sr. Supt. Rolen Balquin, provincial director of the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police Office, identified the two officers as SPO2 Antonio Yap, Jr., and Police Officer 2 Arnel Pocal, both members of the Tacurong City PNP.

The random drug test, Balquin said, came as a surprise to policemen.

The campaign against illegal drugs, according to Balquin, is one of his priorities as he assumed the post two weeks ago.

“The campaign doesn’t exempt our own policemen,” he stressed.

Balquin said the chief of the Tacurong City PNP was already given copy of the results of the random drug tests.

Charges are being prepared against the two policemen.

“They would face administrative and criminal charges. Worst, it might result to their termination from government service. As policemen, they know that illegal drug use is prohibited under the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act,” said Balquin.
