14 LGUs in Iloilo recipients of Ray 2

ILOILO CITY, July 1 (PNA) –- There are 14 local government units (LGUs) in Iloilo that received checks amounting to P51,490,593 distributed by Department of Interior and Local Government Regional Dir. Anthony Nuyda and Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. under the Rehabilitation Assistance for Yolanda (RAY) 2 program on July 1.

Dir. Nuyda said that because of the efficient implementation of the RAY 1 that funding for Ray 2 is released today. Ray 1, which was released last year, was used for the rehabilitation of municipal halls, public markets and civic centers that were damaged by super typhoon Yolanda in Nov. 8, 2013.

Funding assistance under Ray 2 released today will go to the repair of 52 barangay halls, 68 day care centers, and 111 civic centers in the 14 LGUs. The repair of the structures were not included in RAY 1 nor had it been repaired already from other funding sources.

The 14 LGUs whose mayors were present to receive the checks were Anilao, Badiangan, Banate, Bingawan, Cabatuan, Calinog, Duenas, Dumangas, Lambunao, Mina, Pototan, San Enrique, Zarraga and the component Passi city of Iloilo province.

Gov. Defensor said that the assistance is a great help for the LGUs and that he particularly thanked Interior Sec. Mar Roxas for being instrument for the province to get the needed rehabilitation aide.

Likewise, Bingawan Mayor Mat Palabrica thanked the DILG for identifying his hometown again as recipient of the RAY 2 that will benefit 14 barangays. “This is good news for the barangay captains,” Mayor Palabrica said.

Mayor Palabrica said that priority will be the repair of Day Care centers because children are now in school but that they could not concentrate well for they get wet with their leaking classroom rooftop.

Bingawan under Ray 1 also received funding for the repair of the municipal hall in the amount of P6.8 million and gym P3 million and market P900,000.

Arnel Mata, a barangay captain of Janipaan West and president of the Association of Barangay Captains in Mina town, said that he is thankful the repair of the Day Care Center in Bgy. Tipulo has been covered under RAY 2 in the tune of around P250,000.(PNA)
